It has been a while since I have had exciting mail. but in the last week I have had some undyed yarn arrive, as well as this gorgeous bundle from Red Riding Hood Yarns. I’m in love xx

(so late with this post- ooops!)

H is for Handmade.

I LOVE  just about anything Handmade/DIY. There is usually a lot of time, effort, and love put into handmade items, and they make fantastic gifts. Handmade items can also add just a touch of flair to a space, introducing elements of your own style and personality.

I am on a journey. Destination? A completed Rainbow Dress for Miss C.
I am probably halfway there……just the knitting to go lol.
Note: This post is pretty much going to be all about the photos 🙂
8ply WOOLganic “blanks”
Soaking in a vinegar/water solution. Approx 80/20 for 2hrs
My 3 dyes. I mixed these up to roughly the desired strength, by testing
drops of colour on paper towel.
I added colours one at a time, and gently pressed and eased them into
each other, to achieve some blending.
All wrapped up and ready to cook. I did 2 mins on high, rest for 2 mins.
Repeat 2 more times.
Waiting for them to go cold……
……but couldn’t resist a peak lol
all rinsed out (not much residual dye)…..
…..and now waiting for them to dry.
Some tips:
1. Old towels are great for protecting the work surface, and mopping up spills.
2. Old towels, or paper towel, are great for soaking up excess liquid before wrapping up the yarn.
3. Use gloves!!
4. Have plenty of cling wrap on hand
5. Have everything ready to go before you start. I had all my colours on hand, my space set up, and several gloves to prevent mixing colours accidentally/leaving finger prints in unwanted areas.
6. Allow the yarn to cool completely before rinsing, and rinse gently.
7. Admire it! And be amazed by how clever you are hahaha!
Ahhhh, how I love Thursdays. A day where lots of crafty people share what they have been up to. Lots of gorgeous things to sticky beak at, lots of inspiration. Awesome.
My creative space, once again, is my coffee table… seems to be where everything ends up, as I generally sit on the lounge and knit while watching television….or a movie……or ignore the bickering kids etc. It is a super comfy place to sit…so I guess you will be seeing a lot more of my coffee table in future :-p
This week, there are a couple of things on my creative coffee table, and to get into the creative mood, I had a play around with some basic photo editing in photobucket…..whoa! I think I should stick to knitting!!!
mmmmm, coffee and knitting….enough said really!
There are 2 WIPs (work in progress) in this pic. One is a Hotshot (Ravlery link) up in the back there, and the other at the front is a bulky/12ply shawl pattern I am nutting out for myself.
Will see how it goes, and maybe in a few days I will have a gorgeous shawl to share on here!
